Yes it is. But I would have preferred to see the impetus and the start of the composition as well as the development and finish of it. As I spent the morning ordering pastel equipment for my first class ever, I'm a bit apprehensive about why I'm moving in this direction and am more curious about how to begin rather than how to wrap it up. What is propelling this woman? What is her inspiration? It's quite lovely though with the space divided into three: one small, two, nearly equally divided, then warm played against cool. I was hoping to see where turpentine fit in and inexpensive brushes?

My experience with my first demo vid showed me that production trumped the artistic process. But, I'm learning, and will take your ideas to heart for when I do my next one. I know that I make sure to do a start in my workshops, and give my students the whole enchilada (except sometimes the finish is elusive - time for the students is paramount).

As far as turp goes, it isn't too important for your first forays. My suggestion when you do start with these tools is have fun and experiment. I use the brush mostly when I need to remove some layers or areas. Occasionally it will be a blender, but I like other things for that. I especially like the tortillion for blending and moving pastel around.

Starts? Make them drawing based. The better the drawing or concept, the easier the pastel start will be. Use charcoal or a hard pastel for the drawing - charcoal will be more definitive.

What inspires me is hard to put into words. It is a mixture of an internal state of being and experiences - mostly in nature. It is also an interaction between myself and the surface of the paper. I do best when I get out of the way. Thank you Casey for posting. This was a first effort in filming myself and was not good but I posted to youtube anyway. I'll do a better one this winter.
Love you framed piece in the earlier post. Looks so wonderful in that white mat and silver frame.
