Several artists, working in various painting and drawing media, are using a photograph I took for a practical exercise in snow scenes. This one is my pastel effort, and you may see the event here, on Facebook.

This is fantastic, Casey! When I saw that original photo on your blog, my immediate thought was: "this NEEDS to be a painting!" Are you allowing anyone who wants to use it to give it a go, then?
With the rare exception, I have pretty much gotten away from using other people's photos for my own work (esp. landscape) but this is one of those I'd make an exception for - I was drawn to it immediately.
That's a great compliment, given what a great photog you are, Sonya!
Yes, anyone can go for it - I give blanket permission. Of course, the professional artist can't jury in a contest, or a society exhibit, with an unoriginal work. We are practicing, here. I say that to those who are new as artists.
Wow, Casey, this one is such a beautiful and strang work. Love it.
Oh, and let's not forget about naming and linking back to the source of the original reference photo for the derivative painting on one's blog or website: giving credit where credit is due is the courteous thing to do.
A pet peeve of mine, I'm afraid.
Thank you, Asti. I know you appreciate Washington scenery!
Great point, Sonya!
Casey, this is super special!!!
Thank you very much, Mario!
