Six Unisons Only

Deer Lake Cabins
@6" x 8"
Pastel
Casey Klahn

It may be hard to believe that one can be happy doing a pastel on-site with only six Unisons. Here's the proof that it can work, with some creative blending. I did this work by the lake about two years ago, using my French easel and standing on the deck at the cabin.

If I did it over, I would vary the tree heights a bit. Otherwise, it was an old effort at plein-air that has never been posted.

Also, if you are visiting here for the first time, greetings. Enjoy this blog about my pastel work and the broader world of the pastel medium. You would also love my blog: The Colorist, a blog about art process and New School Color.

I was very intrigued by your limited palette when you first posted it. I need to check, I probably will have pretty much all the ones you mentioned and I will try.
I just picked up the pastels tonight again after a long time and find I need getting used to not mixing colours - so this will be a nice experiment.

I need to use this set some more, too.

I'll be going to Seattle this weekend (I hope) and will try to take some art kit with me.

I love the idea of the limited palette. I took a class in color theory one time that also had us use a very limited pastel palette to create some interesting effects. I might have to try it again some time. :-)

Actually, I would say that the six Unis palette is an economy for the sake of weight. I am not much for the limited palette methods. That's just me.

Glad to meet you, Debbie, and thanks for reading here!
