Drawing Tips

Suggestions for drawing:
  1. Draw at least 1,000 drawings this year, if you want to improve. That's less than 3 a day, so you can do it.
  2. Smudge the graphite with your fingers to get a wash effect.
  3. Some of my best drawings were done with a dull pencil.
  4. Rarely use the eraser, unless to add an effect.
  5. Begin with your center of interest, and work outward, with an eye toward balancing the composition.

Hi Casey, just reading this one again, I need to comment. 1000 drawings a year and merely 3 a day almost made me fall over backwards... what an incredible number... I'll never get there, but I suppose it would make sense, wouldn't it?! In particular seeing that probably any I'll do will be better that done than not :)

Hey, Gesa, I'm glad you're reading these.

I am only now becoming aware of how painting has effected my art. Drawing will always be my first love.

It's a funny one: I think colour is what my heart beats for, but all the same, I find myself being more and more drawn to people's drawings (there's a pun) and preparatory work; and getting more experimental with lines too.
