Steven LaRose shares this:
En plein air (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃ plɛn‿ɛʁ]) is a French expression which means "in the open air," and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, which is also called peinture sur le motif ("painting on the ground") in French.

Hello from Finnland

Fine work

Interesting 'motif.' I would have thought motif referred to style.

This is a happy spring painting. Joyful colors. Wonderful energy in the unkempt grasses--I love those the best for their carefree movement every which way.

Thanks for commenting from Finland, Maalari!

Linda, I never explain French before noon. Or ever, for that matter. I'm glad that this work resonates, because it was so rough. I'm looking forward to developing it more.

If that looks like my hair (it could), I should just go ahead and involve a professional colorist. I'd like to think our whole generation of "cotton-tops" could be blank canvases.

A suitably silly, and much appreciated, comment, Sam.

Hey Casey,

I love that tree and I am impressed that you have been outside painting already this spring.

Thanks, Maryann. I have been snowed on since then!
