Raw Apple Sketch
9.5" x 10.5"
Pastel & Charcoal
Casey Klahn
The first attempt at this sketch failed at the drawing stage, but I colored it in, anyway. Then, I wiped away the first attempt and satisfied myself, for the most part, with this. I left it as a sketch, with no background.

ooo very pretty, i love the colours. The depth of the apple is great.
Thank you for commenting, Melanie. I had fun with it.
Simple yet gorgeous! I really like the colour mixes.
Thanks, Vanessa.
Nice! The light on the shadow side is brilliant! Just the right value and a lovely shift from warm green to blue violet. Don't wipe this one away!
Ha ha! I guess I'll keep it. Thanks, Katherine.

I like that semi-spherical shadow. Seems to create a tension between the two shapes? Unusual color palette but lovely muted shadings.
Yes, I guess so. I have to admit I was just after the realism, and not thinking consciously of the shape composition.
The first attempt failed badly at grounding the apple. This one is somewhat better, but have liked my other ones better in that regard.
That's what's nice about sketching - sometimes you can let the errors just be.
Casey, you can call them errors if you want to, but they look like all the right reasons to me.
YUM .. I really love this, Casey, the colours are so vibrant. Errors or no it is definitely a delicious rosy apple, - and you have achieved this without "photographic" realism (which really pleases).
I like the shadow.
Thank you, Sam, Jala and Lesly. Great to have your comments, here, Lesly.

Thank you, Anita!
Seeing your pastel work reminds me of why I love this medium.
Beautiful sketch- lush and rich.
I appreciate it, Stephanie. Maybe I will do some of these for a show.
Wonderful light effect - I love it! Greetings from Luzia.
