Hi Casey - perhaps it is the unusual colour, perhaps it is the short stabbing strokes......but this reminded me of the Hockney exhibition I recently saw in London. Super colour, love it.

Now that you mention it, I do see the similarities in handling of the subject. Must have been an influence in the back of my mind. This scene I have painted several times from a photo I took near Seattle. I'll be teaching a workshop there in August, and it is a beautiful, beautiful place. Bloedel reserve private gardens on Bainbridge Island!

The color is not only great, but the rhythm is energetic and lively, while the walk up the path still retains a feeling of tranquility. Lovely.
